First Quality Foods top and bottom labelling system
When First Quality Foods, the manufacturer of flapjacks, cereal and fruit based bars, were re-locating their bakery division to new premises, they approached Atwell Labellers with their requirements to label not only the top but also the underneath of their products. Atwell’s solution was a bespoke fully automatic (IP55) top and bottom labelling system to apply die cut paper labels onto the top and bottom faces of their pre-filled packaging.
The system had to be flexible to label a variety of the flow-wrapped products that First Quality Foods produce. With products varying in length and with different sized labels, the labelling system had to fully integrate with the existing complete production line, running at particular speeds.
The two heavy duty label heads (top and bottom) were mounted onto a 2m split conveyor made up of an infeed and outfeed section, with an adjustable line height. This conveyor had a variable speed to suit the product to be labelled, allowing for speeds between 20 to 120 packs per minute, dependent on the consistent feeding of the product.
“The top/bottom labelling system perfectly met our requirements, delivering accurate results”, explains Darren Brooks, Chief Operating Officer at First Quality Foods. “Plus it has been easy to link to our other systems. All the dispenser settings can be stored in the memory control to cope with our flexibility requirements.”
First Quality Foods were so pleased with their labelling system that they actually ordered a second machine which has recently been installed.
